The Queen's Jubilee tour comes to Nottingham

The Queen arrives in the Lace MarketAs part of the Queen's Jubilee tour, Her Majesty the Queen visited Nottingham yesterday accompanied by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The royal party arrived in the Lace Market at around 10:15 BST and we were lucky enough to see the convoy as it headed towards the Old Market Square where the royals would appear on the Council House balcony to acknowledge the 10,000+ crowd. Andrea of our artwork team managed to take the photograph above just as the Queen waved to the hundreds of people lining the streets. The picture below shows Karen, Zoë, Emily, Libby and Andrea eagerly anticipating the royal arrival.

Jubilicious!

Equator studioLast Friday, we joined in the national Diamond Jubilee celebrations in style with a themed Jubilee lunch with red, white and blue food and Union Jacks a plenty!
Everyone wore red, white and blue outfits and Karen even made a special hat and a cake stand from old vinyl records! After toasting the Queen with rhubarb and custard pop, we launched into the afternoon’s work buzzing with sugar and e-numbers!

Panettone hits the spot

One of Equator's designs has featured in this month's Delicious Magazine. The Borsari Panettone for Waitrose was described as "A visual showstopper..." by the "The Big Christmas Taste Test" in December's issue and was selected as one of the winners for "The Best Panettone 2011". Hopefully there will be plenty of boxes flying off the shelves this Christmas.

McLaren's new 'MPC'

Subsequent to the launch of their new MP4-12C production car, McLaren have opened the doors to their new £50M MPC, (McLaren Production Centre) in Woking, UK. Built alongside their innovative McLaren Technology Centre or 'MTC' (above). What is so special about the centre is partly down to the fantastic architects behind it. Fosters + Partners have created what appears to be more of a clinical medical facility rather than what you would expect from a standard industrial production line. McLaren say on their site that F+P have “...followed the same ‘form follows function’ ethos as the MTC. As with the car built within these walls, we have the freedom of a blank piece of paper.”

This approach is all very typical of McLaren boss, Ron Dennis' attention to detail and importance of “de-cluttering” the workspace as demonstrated most recently in the BBC documentary, How to Build... A Supercar. featuring McLaren. The programme showed the meticulous nature of every element of McLaren’s trademark craftmanship, from designing the clay prototypes, (inspired somewhat by the anatomy of wildlife), to the tuning of the noise a McLaren engine makes.

With all this in mind, it's hard to argue that this £168,500 super car is one of the most cutting-edge and fantastic machines in the world today. In my personal opinion, it’s pretty much a snip!

Blades awards 2011

The Blades
We are delighted to announce that our Borsari Panettone work for Winterbotham Darby and Waitrose has been shortlisted in the Packaging Category in the Design stream of this year's Blades 2011 awards. Whatever the outcome in September, we are proud to be nominated and shortlisted. The Blades awards are fairly unique in that the criteria for success is based on client feedback, so our shortlisting is a testament to our strong relationship with Winterbotham Darby and the excellent work that Sue, Anna, Tamara and the design team have put in to managing the account and the client expectations.

Race For Life 2011

Race For LifeBig congratulations to Emily and Jo from Equator UK for donning their running shoes and taking part earlier this month in Race For Life 2011 at Nottingham Embankment, raising over £300 between them for Cancer Research. On a hot and sunny morning, Emily and Jo lined up alongside thousands of other ladies of all ages and abilities to tackle the 5km course. After a warm up led by two hunky men they were ready to go, completing the course in a great time of 32 minutes with enough energy left for a sprint finish at the end. There was a great atmosphere to the whole event with everybody wearing pink and supporting each other throughout.

Race For Life 2011
Thank you to all of you who sponsored them for this excellent cause. Sponsorship donations are still welcome on either of their sponsorship pages:
